Yadira Enriquez was born and raised in the heart of East Los Angeles to immigrant parents. She is the first in her immediate family to complete high school, college and pursue graduate studies. Yadira holds a dual bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Global Studies from Azusa Pacific University. Following her undergraduate program, she participated in the Public Allies-Los Angeles Americorp program, a youth leadership development program focused on advancing social justice and systemic change in diverse communities in Los Angeles.
Her experiences led her to pursue a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 2010. Upon graduation, she completed her clinical licensure hours in Southwest Detroit working in an intimate partner violence and sexual assault program serving Latinx women at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and at a community mental health center linking adults and children to mental health services. Yadira has over 19 years of professional experience working within the nonprofit industrial complex in distinct capacities and sectors including permanent supportive housing programs, outpatient substance usage programs, and other community based initiatives. In addition, she has also served as a field instructor for MSW students in the following graduate social work programs: USC, UCLA and CSU-Dominguez Hills.
Yadira’s pronouns are she/her/hers. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. She identifies as a Chicana/Latinx cis femme. While Yadira identifies as Chicana, she is aware of the problematic and complicated history between Mexico and Central America. She is mindful on how ‘Mexicanness’ is often centered and prioritized over other cultural and ethnic experiences in the Latinx community.
Personal: Yadira lived in Cuernavaca, Mexico for one year after graduating college. During that time, she traveled throughout Mexico visiting new states, beaches and reconnecting with her family in Guanajuato. She survived 5 Michigan winters and has a deep respect for the city of Detroit. Yadira is mother to triplet toddlers and when she isn’t wrangling three toddlers, she enjoys cooking, listening to Beyonce, tending to her plants, watching reruns of The Office and listening to her favorite podcasts which include The Read, The Friend Zone, Jade & XD and Locatora Radio.
